Late Payment – How Do You Keep Your Cool?

All businesses face the challenge of late payers whatever their size. It can, however, be much more stressful I think if you are running a small business. It’s well known that small businesses can get squeezed with larger companies paying late just because they can get away with it but it can be just as frustrating if the client is a small business too. What do you do when a client, who has no quibble over the work done, just doesn’t pay despite your best efforts to come to a reasonable arrangement? Is there anything you can do to protect yourself from such situations?

Personal Profile – It’s Just as Important as Business Profile

I’ve got a personal profile in the Christmas edition of Prima magazine. I’m a great believer in the value of consumer PR and it’s interesting that I’ve had quite a bit of response from that piece which focused on me personally rather than the business. I think there is great value in raising your own personal profile alongside looking at opportunities for your business. People connect with people and whatever you do in your marketing I think it’s important to let your personality shine through – it’s often what can help set you apart.

Networking – It’s Not About Business

I do a lot of networking and I’m always interested in how other people approach it. It amazes me that some people still just view it as a way of getting business rather than as building business relationships. It’s true to say that I have never given anyone business after just meeting them once – I’m not that kind of person. I only work with people I feel comfortable with and I believe I can trust. The biggest value of networking is in building up a group of trusted contacts who you know will always act in your best interests and look out for you. I don’t go to networking events to get business – I go to meet people.
